Artist's statement:
This song was originally written in 2019 with the thematic focus centered around what I felt to be negative ripple effects happening across the country in the result of President Trump's presidency. It was a call for impeachment and removal.
Clearly a lot has happened since then. Trump is no longer our president. I wouldn't normally come right out and state what one of our songs was about, but I felt it was necessary in this case. Mainly because when we were recording the song, I realized that some of the lyrics might be ambiguous enough to be misconstrued, especially now that we have a different presidential administration in power. This thought process also made me realize that the political parties seemingly have different values but in the end they use the same rhetoric to make their constituents fearful of the other side. Whenever there's a changing of the guard, the opposing political party believes that the new leadership will lead America to ruins. So the song started to become a greater examination of this growing sense of American fear. People across the political spectrum are concerned about the state of America, but seemingly all for different reasons. The internet provides the opportunity for someone to provide many references to any point they're trying to make, and the integrity of those references seems to be less and less important.
But I digress. Although I recognize that my fear of Trump's presidency is not unique and likely fueled by the media I tend to consume, I do truly believe that he was (and potentially still is) a threat to our democracy and needed to be removed. He's the definition of toxic. Probably the greatest (or worst) American con man to have ever lived.
And although this song could be used to direct towards other politicians and political leaders, i wish not for it to be misdirected or misinterpreted to be a reflection of the current administration. It was most definitely written about the threat of the Trump administration to our democracy and the hate that he enabled and inspired among his followers.
